About
PvP stands for Player vs Player. It's an important part of Grand Chase, and probably draws the most profits. Each character and class has its strengths and weaknesses, but it all balances out.
Most of the time you will see people trying to do quests in PvP.
Unlike Dungeons, it is possible to Grab someone, tossing them aside dealing heavy damage.
Press F9 or the Ready button to be ready for the game.
The room leader has the ability to kick up to 3 people from a room, by dragging the player using the mouse out of their slot.
The room leader can also limit the amount of players by clicking on the free slots (circle) changing them to locked (cross).
The room leader can invite people to join the game, and lock the room with a password.
In a PvP waiting room, one can view the stats of a player by hovering their mouse over them.
Breakdown of icons:
- Character level and name - This is sometimes hidden by equipment. Hover for stats instead.
- Crest icon - This increases when the level of all characters that a player has increases.
- Grade - This is based on the total stats of the current character. With stat upgrades in season 3, this has become useless as almost everyone has A+. Compare stats instead. (Note: there is a new rankings system as of the 08/24/10 Patch)
- Winning Ratio - This is shown by the percentage of wins over total battles.
- Character - This shows which character the player is using. For the character job, look at how the character is standing.
Types of PvP
There are several modes available in PvP. These can be chosen while in a PvP waiting room, on the right hand side by a room leader.
Normal Modes
Team
Team battles consist of two to six players and can be played in two- and three-a-side formations.
Each player is given the option to join either the Serdin Team or Kanavan Team, although they cannot change sides during a match.
As such, it is possible for a Team Battle to be unbalanced when a Team's members are killed off. As such, some players ask for 1v1 when they are the last team player standing.
Team battles encourage players to plan their attack strategies and co-operate with one another to defeat the opposing team.
Team battles end when all players of one team are defeated.
Survival
Survival is where between two to six players battle with each other until only one player is left alive.
In order of performance, half the room gets a win, while half the room gets a loss. If there are an odd number of players, the number of wins in rounded down (1 for 3 players, 2 for 5 players).
If players leave or quit a room, the number of winners remain unchanged.
Tag
Tag Match allows players to play with up to two characters of their choice.
In the waiting room, players select their character on the top right.
By pressing the C button, you can change to a different character during the fight. You can change character while the map loads.
Stats of the character are the same as the one that "Ready"s in the waiting room. (e.g Elesis-Lv.10 "Ready"s in the room. Switching to a Lire.46 midfight, player fights stats nerfed)
If one character is chosen, 2 lives are given. If two different characters are chosen, 1 life is given each. Characters are automatically switched when one is killed.
For example, a player could choose to play as Elesis-Spearman, Elesis-Spearman + Lire-Archer. A player cannot play as two different jobs of a character (e.g Elesis-Spearman + Elesis-Sword Master).
The advantages of Tag Match are:
- Low number of lives mean quick matches
- Skill trees are disabled
- Buff used by a character can be carried over when switching (e.g Ronan's Holy Bless transfers to Elesis when switching)
However, Tag Match currently has no quests attached.
Item Mode
When Item Mode is turned on, power ups will be dropped onto the battlefield at regular intervals throughout the match and can be used by the player that picks them up.
These power ups grant the player special abilities, such as invisibility or invincibility, for a short duration of time. Each player can store up to three (3) power ups at any time and use them in the order that they were picked up, beginning with the latest. Selection can be rotated by pressing the X button, and activated with the C button (by default).
When used, a message in blue will flash in your team's Chat Log, saying "(Insert Player Name Here) has used the (Insert Item Name Here) Item". The opposing team cannot see this message.
For a list of Status Inflictions and Items, see Status Inflictions.
Event Modes
Honor Guard
This mode is essentially a team battle where one member of each team is randomly selected as a 'Warlord' upon the start of the match, shown by a red/blue marker, visible only to teammates.
The aim of the game is to find out and defeat the opposing team's Warlord twice before your own is beaten. Warlords are given double regular stats to help defend themselves from the opposing team, while other players have stats equal to each other. Furthermore, a Warlord has only two lives, whereas other players have infinite lives.
Should a Warlord be defeated once, the other team's Warlord suffers from a drastically lowered level of defense for 10 seconds.
Similar to the Smashing Jack, respawn time is increased to 5 seconds for all players.
Smashing Jack
This mode appears as a special event, usually centered around holidays like Halloween and Christmas. This mode is generally considered the same for all special events.
The only difference in this event is the target of the "smashing". For example during Christmas the target of the smashing might be a snowman, and for Halloween the player might be asked to smash a pumpkin.
When smashing, teams attempt to smash the special seasonal items that belong to the opposing team. The team who accomplishes this first wins the game.
However, like Team Battles, the opposing teams can be unbalanced, due to players leaving the room.
Players are still allowed to kill other players in this mode, penalizing them with a 5 second respawn time. However, all players have infinite lives, thus it is only a slight hindrance to die.
PvP Maps
Rankings
There are 3 types of PvP rankings, and a fourth one for all of GrandChase.
Rankings can be viewing by going to the Park.
Daily Rankings
Daily Rankings are given to the people whose character(s) had the best win/loss record for the previous day.
Weekly Rankings
Weekly Rankings are given to the people whose character(s) scored in the top three slots for the previous week.
Monthly Rankings
The much sought after Monthly Rankings are given to the people whose character(s) scored in the top three slots that month.
Also, any person in the Top 100 rankings for the entire month gets their monthly rank displayed under their stats in yellow text.
This is viewable by other players when they hover their mouse over other players in Dungeon waiting rooms and PvP waiting rooms.
Experience Rankings
Experience rankings show the highest leveled characters ranked 1-100, and, if you click the little icon of the characters, you see who is the highest level for that character.
NOTE: Black and White Champion's Armor Sets are no longer given to those in Weekly and Monthly Ranks anymore due to the amount of excessive Win trading (Swapping).
